Kyle Larson reaches top spot in NBC Sports NASCAR Power Rankings

After Sunday’s Cup race at Sonoma, Kyle Larson claimed the top spot in the points standings and the NBC Sports NASCAR Power Rankings. This week’s top 10 list features a new driver following Larson’s rise to number one.

The NASCAR Cup and Xfinity racing will be returning to NBC and USA Network starting this weekend at Iowa, with Sunday night’s Cup race at Iowa Speedway airing on USA Network.

In this week’s Power Rankings, Kyle Larson secured the number one spot after winning at Sonoma for his third victory of the season. Denny Hamlin, who previously held the top position, finished last at Sonoma due to engine trouble. Chase Elliott secured a fourth-place finish, marking his sixth top-five finish in the last 10 races.

Brad Keselowski finished 13th at Sonoma, breaking his streak of top-three results but still maintaining a strong performance overall. Tyler Reddick won a stage and finished eighth at Sonoma, continuing his streak of top-10 finishes. Christopher Bell secured a ninth-place finish, his fourth top-10 in the last five races.

William Byron finished 30th at Sonoma due to tire issues and getting caught in an incident, marking his fourth race out of the top 10 in the last six races. Ross Chastain finished fifth, earning his second top-10 finish in the past three races. Alex Bowman finished 15th, marking his second race outside the top 10 after a previous streak of five consecutive top-10 finishes. Ty Gibbs hit the Turn 11 wall at Sonoma, finishing 37th after placing 11th or better in the three previous races. Martin Truex Jr., who was ranked seventh last week, dropped out of the rankings following a poor performance at Sonoma.
